Grammar Discovery: adverbs of frequency (always, usually, sometimes, never) + position in sentence

Look at where the adverb goes in the sentence. Is it before or after the verb?

I ALWAYS get up at seven. (always BEFORE get up)

I USUALLY have toast and coffee. (usually BEFORE have)

I SOMETIMES take the bus. (sometimes BEFORE take)

I NEVER have a big breakfast. (never BEFORE have)

I'm NEVER happy in the morning. (never AFTER am)

Expected answer: Adverb goes BEFORE the main verb (I always GET UP). But AFTER the verb BE (I'm never HAPPY).

Explain:

Where do always/usually/sometimes/never go in the sentence?

I always get up at seven. — BEFORE the verb: always + get up

I'm never happy in the morning. — AFTER be: I'm + never

Quick Check (oral):

1. Say: "I ___ get up at seven. (always / am always)"

Expected: always

If wrong: Before a normal verb: I ALWAYS get up.

2. Say: "I ___ tired in the morning. (never am / am never)"

Expected: am never

If wrong: After BE: I AM NEVER tired.

3. Say: "She ___ takes the bus. (usually / is usually)"

Expected: usually

If wrong: Before a normal verb: She USUALLY takes.

Explicação (PT-BR):
Adverbios de frequencia indicam com que frequencia algo acontece: always (100%), usually (~80%), sometimes (~30%), never (0%). Posicao: ANTES do verbo principal (I always get up at 7). DEPOIS do verbo BE (I'm never happy). Never = negativo, entao o verbo fica positivo (I never drink = I don't ever drink).

Practice

15 minutes
Watch for:
- 'I get up always at seven' — adverbio no lugar errado. ANTES do verbo: I ALWAYS get up
- 'I never don't have breakfast' — dupla negativa. NEVER ja e negativo: I NEVER have (nao 'I never don't have')
- 'I am always tired' vs 'I always am tired' — com BE o adverbio vem DEPOIS: I AM always tired
- Pronuncia de 'usually' — /IU-ju-a-li/, 4 silabas. Aluno tende a engolir para 2
- 'Breakfast' — /BREK-fast/, nao /bri-KE-fast/. E uma silaba so na primeira parte
- 'Get up' — phrasal verb. O adverbio entra antes: I ALWAYS get up (nao 'I get always up')
