Look at these questions and answers from the dialogue. What word starts every question?

Do you like this book? → Yes, I do.

Do you live in New York? → No, I don't.

Do you have children? → No, we don't.

Expected answer: Laurary question starts with DO. Answers: Yes, I DO. / No, I DON'T. The verb doesn't appear in the short answer.

Explain:

How do we make questions with 'you'?

You like coffee. → Do you like coffee? — Add DO at the beginning. The verb doesn't change.

Do you like coffee? → Yes, I do. / No, I don't. — Short answer: do/don't. NEVER repeat the verb.

Quick Check (oral):

1. Say: "___ you live near here? (Do / Are)"

Expected: Do

If wrong: Questions about habits: DO you...? (not ARE you)

2. Say: "Do you like coffee? Yes, I ___. (do / like)"

Expected: do

If wrong: Short answer: Yes, I DO. Never 'Yes, I like.'

3. Say: "___ you have children? No, we ___. (Do/don't)"

Expected: Do, don't

If wrong: Do you...? → No, we don't.

Explicação (PT-BR):
Para fazer perguntas sobre habitos: Do + you/we/they + verbo base (sem 's'). Resposta curta: Yes, I do. / No, I don't. NUNCA repete o verbo na short answer: 'Yes, I do.' (NAO 'Yes, I like.').
